THE ART OF RICH JONES
Welcome to a unique refreshing and exhilarating style of abstract painting!
ABOUT THE ART
Rich Jones follows several principles in his art. The first is that his paintings be dramatic. Sometimes this is accomplished by prominent textures, bold colors, or striking shapes.
The second principle is the painting must be interesting. Most of his paintings have great complexity and detail. This makes for the continuous discovery of new aspects in the paintings, keeping the art always engaging. Due to their abstract design, these paintings can be rotated in any direction and will look very different. The ridges and valleys on the heavily textured paintings create infinite patterns and intriguing visual effects. Spotlighting makes the texture especially dramatic. These paintings continue to maintain their interest element long after the first examination due to their variety of forms, textures, and colors.
The third principle is that the paintings need to be stimulating—visually, mentally, emotionally, and in some paintings, tactically. They project energy and passion with the use of bold vivid colors, striking shapes, and rugged textures. The flow of the action keeps the eye moving across the canvas and keeps the painting dynamic. The highly textured paintings are not only to be experienced visually but also tactically. Enjoy running your fingers over the varying contours of the paintings.
The fourth principle is that the art should be refreshing and uplifting to the spirit. They make you cheerful and energized. Each painting is unique original art. Enjoy the visual and tactile journey!
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rich Jones' artistic taste for bold exotic colors and flair began as a child growing up with American parents in Caracas, Venezuela. At the age of fourteen, he left Venezuela to go to school in Massachusetts. He later attended Duke University and received a B.A. in Biology. After graduating from college, he was accepted to the University of Texas School of Architecture, but instead decided to go to dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry. After receiving his doctorate, he lived with his family in San Diego, California for fourteen years. In 1993 Rich Jones, aka Richard Jones D.D.S., and his family moved to Austin, Texas.
In 2003 Dr. Jones wanted to display original abstract art at his dental office in Austin. After visiting several galleries and not finding exactly what he wanted, he decided to paint his own art. He completely redesigned his dental office, Westlake Hills Dental Arts, into a uniquely and strikingly modern art gallery/dental office that exhibited his refreshingly original abstract paintings. His art has been exhibited at the University of Texas Bass Auditorium and various other locations.
Dr. Jones retired from dentistry in 2019 and continues to create bold abstract art, along with writing geopolitical adventure novels (see Richjonesauthor.com). Much of his initial work still remains for viewing at the Westlake Hills Dental Arts office, now under Dr. Long’s leadership.
The paintings are signed by the artist not on the front, but on the side of the canvas border, allowing for different orientations. The canvases are gallery-style with 1 1/2-inch side borders and therefore no framing is necessary.
View for yourself this bold new style of abstract art. You will be in for a visual treat.
